Message from Bonnie - Week of January 12th

Hey Everybody,

This week should be another joyful week on the show, thank you all again for making the choice to tune in. We will talk about The Golden Globes and other topical things starting Tuesday. We pre-taped Monday's show, the bachelor Jason Mesnick is on. After getting his heart broken last season on 'The Bachelorette' it's interesting to hear his take on the whole process of finding a possible wife on reality TV.

The rest of the week is an interesting line up of guest, can't wait to hear from all of them and share our stories with all of you.

It's been a long weekend. My dog Charlie is not feeling well. He is not sleeping through the night, poor appetite, and when he does eat it makes him sick. As you all know right before the show debuted in September my other dog Buddy passed away, Charlie's best friend, and he's been with Buddy since he was only six weeks old. So yes, he is really discovering now that she is not coming back...

Long story short, the vet has now diagnosed Charlie with, (besides colitis) 'depression'/Charlie is 'emotionally distraught about his best friend and long time room mate Buddy passing away.'

The vet was careful to point out that he didn't want to give Charlie human qualities, but did note that the colitis is triggered by Charlie being home alone. It is a definite pattern. If I leave him alone for more than a few hours, when I get home, he now has 'accidents' in the house, which is something he would never do normally. He mopes around, whimpering during the night as he sleeps in Buddy's old nighttime spot.

The vet then talked about what he thought would be the perfect prescription for Charlie. Another dog, a new friend, would be a very healing choice for Charlie.

Charlie still seems down, won't eat much. I took him to a few of the doggy rescue adoption centers to see if he clicked with any dogs. He wanted nothing to do with it...just kept sitting down and refusing to budge.

So for now I'm choosing to spend as much time with him as I can and will bring him to work, keep him busy and give him a bland diet till his tummy can heal. We haven't given up on a new playmate for Charlie; after all he lives for his playtime with his friend Dex, the golden retriever from the neighborhood. We'll keep looking for a friend for him and we can talk about it on the show. It will be difficult for any pup to be as special as Buddy, but in time all dogs are special in our hearts...I'll keep you all updated.

I'm looking forward to sharing another week together.

Thanks again,
Bonnie

I had a similar experience as you with my dogs. This past year we had a very windy day and our fence was blown down and both of our dogs got loose. The one that we had for 8 years, was hit by a car and killed. It was a tagic experience for the whole family, especially the other dog that lived. She was in a serious state of depression. She lost weight, became skin and bones, and cried all of the time. After running tests on her that came back normal, the vet recommended that we get another dog. We got her a puppy and she has gained weight, and is happy again. I highly recommend a new dog for Charlie.

I signed up for Bonnie's web site to see if I could find out where she get's her tops I'm 54 and think her cloths are awsome if she doesn't pick them out herself I want to know who does!

I love your show. I watch it every morning in ATL, while I am excercising and it makes it go by so much faster than normal TV. I love the guest that you have on and all the funny things you say and do. Your Mother is a stitch. What did you decide on for a friend for Charlie. I think the pug is going to be his best friend. Thanks for all your hard work and entertainment. We love ya. G

Please choose Charle for Charlie, he loved her...and you will too. My dog is pit and Lab and he watched the show and is voting for the pug too.

Hi Bonnie,

You look absolutely gorgeous!

This message is really for the person who posted that they thought Bonnie's outfit was inappropriate for someone her age.

WELL since I am someone who is the same age as Bonnie (actually 3 weeks older), if I had Bonnie's amazing figure, I'd be doing the very same thing!

We're still young on every level. The world doesn't belong just to youth despite what Hollywood tells you.

My two cents from Canada.

Thank you,

Linda

Hi Bonnie,
I watched your show all week and have a few comments to make. I enjoyed seeing Gary Sinise as I am a big fan and agree with what he said about the fact that you should make more movies like "Return To Me". I loved that movie it was on TV the other night at about 1:00 in the morning so I stayed up to watch it, for about the tenth time.
I also watched Friday when you had Charlie on with all the other dogs, loved it,the dogs they are just so darn cute. My husband and I also have a dog Thor(German Short Hair Pointer) who has chronic colitis which he takes medicine for daily and is doing fine. I'm glad to hear that Charlie is feeling better.
Thanks for making me laugh at a difficult time. Keep giving us all an entertaining and funny show.
Sincerely,
Christine

Monica,

Bonnie looks wonderful for her AGE she is not old... She is YOUNG YOUNG YOUNG !!!!!!

Bonnie is a beautiful person inside and out. She is not flaunting her breasts around. She dresses with style and dignity..

She is a class act all the way..

She has alot of class.. I wish SOME of her viewers would realize that..

Bonnie is the classiest woman on TV these days..

I have the upmost respect for her so lay off the stupid and negative comments..

Did you ever hear the saying if you have nothing good to say then don't say anything at all.

Monica try it sometime !!!!!

Bonnie don't change a thing as you know you are doing a wonderful job and you are the # 1 talk show host in my book.

We all love Bonnie. You know that. But instead of trying to make her our saviour for our pets or the pets our friends have, lets look in our own communities. Are there any other dog lovers/ rescuers out there? I know a dog that needs rescuing. My boyfriend has a dog that was a product of his male dog and a neighbors' dog. Annie's such a sweetheart (loves to hug!) but bf (even though he'd like her to have a good home) wasn't more pro-active about finding a good home for her when his ex-girlfriend didn't take her like she said she would when she left about two years ago. Now Annie (3-4 years old) is peeing blood and my boyfriend doesn't want to take her to the vet and I can't afford to. I've been laid off (twice in one year-sucks!) and am living on less than minimum wage even on unemployment (you don't get much when you don't make much). Annie's strictly an outdoor dog. Can anybody help me? My heart cries for this dog. But my hands are rather tied at this time.

How to Fold a Shirt

I tuned in January 16 to Bonnie Hunt, only to
be completely shocked that a woman that age
would expose her Breasts on morning television.

Fist of all, she's too old to be showing
cleavage and second, why on morning prime time
TV ?

She's a good TV host and the show is good
but her taste in conservative wardrobe leaves
much room for improvement.

After all, what is she selling....sex or
herself ? Please see that she gets this.

Hi Bonnie !!

My name is Pandora Rose and I am a two year old black pug. I sent you an email but I am afraid you won't get it so I am going to make a comment.
I watched your show today and would like to place my vote for the pug !! Charlie loved the pug. Pugs are very special "people" and in no time you will love that little one as much as Charlie does now. We do snore a little bit ... and shed a bit ... and sometimes we can be a wee bit gassy but we make great friends !!
I watch your show every day and love it !!
Thank you Bonnie,
Pandora sue Rose
PS my picture is in the email.

Bonnie,

I think you will enjoy this video clip that was e-mailed to me. It's on youtube. It's called "Elephant and Dog Prove Best Friends - Tarra and Bella.'

I record your show everyday and watch in the evening. Such a positive end to my day. Thanks for being so real and getting positive messages out there, especially to young girls about self-esteem and dating.

Television is a powerful medium (as you spoke about with Dr. Drew) and it is encouraging to see it being used in an encourging, positive, uplifting way. Keep up the good work and God Bless you.

Kimberly

I hope that Charlie gets better soon.

And I just realized that both of our Mom's name is Alice and that my Mom's last dog's name was Buddy too. My Buddy was upset too when my Mom past away and he did not have any one to spend time with during the day after she died, and so I had to turn him into the local APL, because I was working 10 hours a day then and could not find anyone to adapt him who could give him all the attention that he needed.

Larry

Bonnie,
Charlie and you are both in my prayers. I am a true believer that God does place special pets with special people. Charlie is so very lucky to have your love and comfort during this difficult time in his life. Your continued compassion will certainly pay off! God Bless.

Love and prayers
Mimi

Hi - not a long comment: breathe, stay in the NOW and deal with the stuff as it happens. Losing a family member sucks. Charlie needs to grieve too and you are doing the right things. The perfect Pal for Charlie will be revealed.

PS.. I am your slightly older sister.
Barb^

My 20 year old cat, Bart passed the day after my bday in July. My other two kittens (well over a year old now) missed him very much. Roxanne and Max stayed with me all the time. Wouldn't sleep in Bart's old bed. Had to get a new one. Took him a while. Maybe a get a puppie or just talk to Charlie about it and tell him it's ok to grieve and it will just take awhile...I'll say a prayer for Charlie and I still my little "bart'lett pear head". Just reemeber what Micky O'rourke just said in his speech...I love your show too. It's shown at 2:00am in Philly but it's worth it...

Bonnie... I caught the end of your show on Tuesday the 13th... and heard you mention possibly looking for a companion for your dog.. Charlie..

I am currently in the position of trying to find the right home for my mother's dog "Wolfie".
as she passed away after a long illness January 6th.

"Wolfie" is a purebred Cairn Terrior ( like Toto, in the Wizard of Oz ) He is a very loving dog and gets along well with all people but especially loves the company of other dogs.

My mother loved watching your show, She was always charmed by you. I couldn't resist writing to see if you might want to screen "Wolfie" or "Lord William Wolfric"... ( named from a historical romance novel.) as a possible companion for your Charlie.

I can forward a photo and references from his trainer/dog walker if you like.

I appreciate your consideration.
