Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup cake flour
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
6 egg yolks
1 tablespoon lemon zest
6 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 1/2 cups lemon pie filling
8 slices lemon |
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/2 cup sugar. Add oil, egg yolks, water and lemon rind. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
In a small bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until peaks form. Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar, and beat until very stiff and shiny peaks form. Fold 1/3 of the whites into the batter, then quickly fold in remaining whites until no streaks remain. Turn batter into ungreased 10-inch tube pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Invert cake and cool completely in pan. When cool, loosen edges and shake pan to remove cake.
Make Filling: Beat cream to stiff peaks. Fold in lemon filling. Chill until stiff.
Put it all together: Slice cake horizontally into equal layers. Fill layer with 1/3 cup of filling. Spread remaining filling on top layer. |

Hello Bonnie,
Regarding Heather Graham's question "Is Larry Parker's Beverly Hills 24 Hour Diner, still open?"
I am that Larry Parker, and we are now "Big Daddy's Pizza & Funnel Cake Shop" on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. 1425 Ocean Front Walk Venice.
Heather mentioned she had our famous carrot cake in Beverly Hills, I will offer any and all of your viewers a free "Apple Fry" (like a mini funnel cake stuffed with an Granny Smith apple slice) if they email me through our website, or call me.
Our website is www.bigdaddyandsons.com
Debbie and I think you are Great!
Hey Bonnie,
I enjoy watching your show. I tape it and watch it in the evening as a way to brighten my day, especially if it was stressful.
I saw the discussion about your mother's Easter lemon cake/pie. I suggest a compromise and call it a pike.
However, I just returned from eating at the Olive Garden and I noticed on their dessert menu the same lemon cake that was featured on your show. I didn't know your mother worked at Olive Garden, or did they steel her recipe?
Anyway, keep up the great job!
Dear Bonnie
Once again i just want to say how much I love your show..it is truly the brightest part of my day and I never miss it. I can see that all your staff love and respect you and you feel the same way about them..that is just so heart warming to see!
I have a request...PLEASE, PLEASE bring your Mom on the show...your segments with her are very entertaining but it would be so great if you could have her on in person. Maybe she could make her "Happioca" tapioca recipe...I am still looking for that recipe posted on your website. The lemon pie/cake recipe looks yummy and I am going to make it this weekend. My vote is that it is a cake, Sorry Bonnie, I have to side with your Mom on this one!
Hi Bonnie,
I just wanted to tell you, I saw Return to me. I loved it, it was everything, funny, sad and wonderful. I am recovering from a knee injury and I needed something to watch, so I got a tone of movies and yours was one of them. I am a big fan, I DVR all your show's so I will not miss them.
You spoke several times about your movie and I wanted to see for myself. It was wonderful, and you should write and direct another movie.. Don and Holly were so funny, and catching your mom at the restaurant was a joy to see. Thanks for helping me recover with some laughs.
Regards,
Rachel Perlis
Bonnie:
Your story about brushing your teeth with Prep H was the funniest ever! I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants. That part wasn't good, but the laughing was good.
Also the Easter Bunny story .....OMGosh!
Thanks so much!
Sue
Love your show Bonnie, every day is a laugh and gets me going:)
Don't feel bad about brushing your teeth with Preparation H .....try brushing your teeth with Athletic Foot creme with your toothbrush, burns like heck and I haven't had a cold sore in years
Love the band and you and staff pick the great guests. Make sure you don't leave out the pups...love it...Ask Alice...what a kick your Mom is...love her and YOU

Just want to comment on the Preparation H. I worked at a product testing facility many years ago and the makers of Prep-H were thinking about making a version of Prep-H as a wrinkle remover, but before investing in the process they wanted us to test Prep-H on several women who had equal wrinkles on both sides of their face. The company had each woman smear the prep-H (wrapped up in a brown wrapper so they didn't know what they were using) on one side of their face and we (the testing staff) had to look at their faces to see which side looked better. Well it was sort of stupid since one side looked like a grease slick and one side was dry. Then one of the woman says, "this product really smells familier but I just can't put my finger on it". We all basically had to leave the room to go laugh our heads off. It never went to market as a cosmetic. Love your show, I work but Tivo you every day! Deb Gras
Hi Bonnie,
I loved the show today especially the story about the lemon cake. Howver when you brought out the cake , which looked real yummy, I thought you were going to share the recipe with us. How about it? It looks sooooo good I am dying to make it !!
Joan
Bonnie, you are the funniest, most interesting talk show host on TV. I live in the Chicago area and just love you when you talk about Chicago. Your Mom is a delight and PLEASE POST THE RECIPE FOR HER PIE/CAKE. It looked delicious. I work so I tape your show every day and watch every night, You are a delight. Don't forget we all want that recipe.
Regarding your Preparation H story, it was hysterical. Someone told me that it is good to use on your face to shrink your skin and take away your wrinkles. I tried it for a month and unfortunately I still have more chins than a chinese phone book.
Take care and keep on making us laugh.
Hello Bonnie,
Could you please post the toxic link or have it emailed.
Thank You
Dee
I would also like to have a link to the toxic people information, can you email that to me please.
Thanks,
Holly
Your Preparation H story was sooo funny! I had to share it with my husband, who quite some time ago, when the kids were little, mistakenly picked up a tube of Peri-Anal diaper rash ointment. It was in the bathroom, next to the toothpaste and you can guess the rest! I remember laughing that whole day - just because of the meaning of "peri-anal!" He worked for hours to get the gooey white stuff out of his mouth. I don't think we even had a poison control number to call back then!
Just when he thought his blunder was forgotten I saw your story about Prep. H! Thank you for another day of laughter. Actually every day brings laughter when I watch your show. We love you - thank you.
Bonnie-
I love how you research your guests and draw out the best (& funniest) in each of them.
I especially love the endearing (& enduring)relationship you and Alice have. For years, my Mom & I had an okay relationship. I was born on their 3rd wedding anniversary, was the first girl in the family (both sides) and so I always felt like I spoiled her "special day with Dad". Mom & I had one major thing in common- Dad was the center of both our worlds. Dad died 5 years ago of colon cancer on Leap year day. Just like an Irish Catholic-we can only truly recognize his passing once every 4 years & the other years I toggle between Feb. 28th & March 1st! Two years after my Dad died, Mom was diagnosed with colon cancer as well. She lives in Northern California & I live in Montana. I was with her for her surgery & post op period & I'm happy to say she remains cancer free today & has an annual colonoscopy. Last year around Leap Year, I stayed with Mom for a week near the 4th anniversary of my Dad's passing. We had a great time just being together. Before I left, she said simply "I'm going to miss you, I've enjoyed our time together". That was a great moment for me. We don't get together every year, but we do stay in touch on the phone and through letters and cards. I'm a lucky person to still have Mom.
Best Regards, Christie Briggs Helena Montana
Hi Bonnie,
I really love your show! My nephew's mother gave me a recipe from her town of Telford, Pa and it is called a "Funny Cake"..it is a cake baked into a pie crust. Your cake on the show looked like an Italian Cream cake made by the Cheesecake Factory.I'd love to see your Mom bake something on the show..Bless you and your family!
Love your show Bonnie.......your Mom is the BEST !!! You mentioned the article on toxic people.I thought you said that you'd read it in The Huffington Post.Checked but can't find it there..how can I access the whole article? Thanks.
The birds you saw eating avacado from the tree would not have been parrots. Avacadoes are toxic to parrots. The pit releases a chemical into the flesh which is toxic to them. Please follow this link (http://www.parrotparrot.com/birdhealth/alerts.htm#foods) for more info. Please let your viewers know how dangerous this can be for their fids (feathered kids).
I love you as always -- what I really want to know -- when is "Life with Bonnie" going to be available on DVD? My daughter and I LOVED your show, and were so disappointed when it went off the air.
Oh My Gosh! When Bonnie was telling her Prep H. story, it brought back a recent unpleasant memory. It was late at night, hubby was out of town. I thought I put toothpaste on my tooth brush, but instead I used Mentholaytum. You talk about some burning. I was trying to call the Poison control center but the guy on the other end of the phone couldn't understand me. I was gasping, spitting, hacking, and trying like hell not to swallow. He just kept saying you are mumbling, speak slowly and pronunce your words. I pronounced my words all right. They were not lady like. One good thing did come out of the debacle, I could breath like a baby. I was still sniffing Mentholaytum the next day.
