I'll be honest,I have watched your show just a few times due to lack of nothing else being on. My Mom and Dad are bigger fans, of course. I just want to comment on some of the ignorant fans you have sharing their thoughts about your Vet guest, Dr. Halligen, on April 2nd. I would like to know what type of educational background they have about dogs or even anything at all. I may have just missed it but I did not see a Dr. in front of their names to back up their debate against what Dr. Halligen had to say.
I have had pets before that have gotten sick from feeding them cheese and other milk products. I had no idea that their bodies could not handle certain foods.
These 'fans' with such ignorant comments and opinions are perfect examples why there is such an abundance of homeless and/or sick dogs ALL over the world. Their lack of education and common sense along with their arrogance and assumption that Dr. Halligen is "just trying to sell books" clearly shows their stupidity.
They are probably the same dog owners that mix breeds in order to sell pups but do not do the research first to find out what each breed usually has problems with to prevent breeding incorrectly and increasing the chance that a dog has a particular disease or handicap. This is THE biggest cause of abandoned dogs in our country.
How much more ignorant could one be to say that a Vet doesn't know about a dogs digestive system and health needs. Would they question a cardiologist about what is good and bad for the health of our heart?
Just because their dogs are not ill yet or have had a dog who lived what they thought to be a long healthy life does not mean feeding them these thing has not effected them. The idea is to try and prevent these things from occurring,as well us increase their quality of life; Just as we would try to do by eating healthy, limiting salt and fat intake, and of course NOT eating things known to make us ill!
I challenge these viewers and pet owners to feed their dog correctly and give them AS MUCH IF NOT MORE exercise than they are required for 1 month and tell us how much more energy and how much happier their dog is.
Thanks,
Tracy McEntee
Bonnie, I'm a huge fan of your show, I watch it everyday on my lunch! I was so excited to see our vet, Doc Halligan on your show. I look forward to future segments with her. And please keep me in mind, if your ever have any extra tickets, I'd love to meet Charlie in real life, he's so handsome.
Thanks so much,
Kellie
Bonnie, Keep feeding Charlie the homemade food. Especially if it has helped his skin condition. My dogs have been on a raw diet for 6 years and they are doing great. It even changed the behavior (for the better) of my Akita Chow Mix. No matter what dog food you feed your dogs there is nutrition missing from them.
dear Bonnie: i love your show. i rescue dogs and cats.
please keep feeding Charlie the diet you told us about. just make sure the fish is wild caught and not farm raised. i am not practicing medicine but what i do is throw in a dog multi vitamin with minerals. i also make sure to include some electrolytes. for elderly dogs, i follow the advice from books written by vets who switched from medicine to natural holistic medicine. there is a great magazine called ANIMAL WELLNESS that has fantastic info for pets.
i had a very bad experience with store bought dog food and it was not the cheap stuff from the grocery store. in 2005, 2 of my elderly dogs and 1 young dog died rather suddenly. prior to feeding that food, they were all in excellent health and had regular vet physicals, shots, etc.
even the best foods don't always have control over what goes into the food even when they "oversee" the process from an outsourced location.
check Dr. Martin Goldstein's book "The Nature of Animal Healing". any vet that has not studied natural or holistic healing will not buy into feeding human food or giving herbs and nutrients to CURE not TREAT your pet's problems.
Yo Bonnie, About your gardener and the beer/slug thing. She's right, but you don't want to put the beer in the garden itself. Slugs do have a good sense of smell, so put the bowl/bowls about two feet out of the plants. This way they don't crawl from the lawn into the garden, but the other way around. So if it's too crowed at "the bar" and there is a wait, the little guys won't munch on plants while they're waiting.
One more thing. They really like a hopsey smelling brew, like the german beers...lite beer is not allowed.
P.s. Loved Troy the barber!!

Hi Bonnie,
Love your show! Please continue to feed Charlie
what you have been feeding him. I feed raw and
my Bichon lived a healthy life to the age of 15.
Home cooking is so much better than packaged dog
food. The way Charlie looks is the best way to
judge if what you are feeding is the right food
for him. He is a sweetheart and looks very healthy.
Thank you for all the laughs!
Kathleen Daniel
Hi Bonnie,
LOVE your show!!! It doesn't come on in Philly until 2:00am, but I still watch, especially now that I'm home from work due to a recent surgery. When I go back to work (dental assisting)I'll have to catch you on Fridays & have someone teevo you the other days. Keep up the good work with the animals!!! Me & my german shepherd- Nikita love ya for that. We both learn alot from your show!!!! {{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}

Hi Bonnie!
I'm sure you know that today, April 3, is Doris Day's birthday and she is turning 85 years young. She has been a wonderful animal lover, a sensational actress, and seems like a genuinely nice woman. It would be lovely to see her on your show. Is that a record cover with her photo on your set?

I NEVER MISS YOUR SHOW. I'M SORT OF HOMEBOUND AND GREW UP IN CHICAGO AND I LOVE ALL THE REFERENCES TO OUR GREAT TOWN. I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT WHAT NOT TO FEED MY DOG, ALTHOUGH I ALWAYS HAVE HAD A DOG FOR MY KIDS AND EVEN NOW I HAVE A YELLOW LAB, LOOLS LIKE YOURS,FOR COMPANY. HE DOES LOVE CHEESE, SO I'LL HAVE TO CHANGE THAT HABIT. MY DAUGHTER, WHO LIVES WITH ME TO TAKE CARE OF WHATEVER I MAY NEED, LOVES YOUR SHOW AS MUCH AS I. THE CHILDREN ON THE SHOW ARE JUST WONDERFUL AND YOUR GUESTS ARE A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO. KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL WARM CHICAGO STYLE. IT'S VERY REFRESHING!!!!
Although I'm sure that Dr. Halligan feels confident in her recommendations, I urge you to continue to feed Charlie your homemade food and consult with a holistic vet or reputable pet supply shop owner as to the supplements that should be added. Vet schools are supported by pet food companies and students are therefore mislead as to the nutritional benefits of commercial pet food. Pet food companies spend an enormous amount on advertising and little on the quality of their products. A book titled, "Natural Nutrition for Dogs & Cats" by Kymythy R. Schultze is a good source of information. You've improved Charlie's health by feeding him quality homemade food~~please continue to do so. I did the same thing with my rescued cats and they're thriving!
OMG!!(The "Catholic"/"Shirley Temple" version)...
Your opening today (Bonnie's Broadway Album) was
HILARIOUS!!....I could not stop chuckling!!....
(by the way--"tick" Chicago accent or not--GIRL--you can carry a tune!!)... :-)
You are, not only extremely funny/quick witted...but, a DELIGHT in this age of so much nasty/negative television! It is obvious Ms. Alice (and your dad), did a wonderful job raising you! Your warmth as a human being is so refreshing.....I'm so glad your show was picked up for a second season!....and,....
BLESS YOU BONNIE...for ALL you DO for the DOGGIES!!!!!!!
Bonnie.....ditto...ditto ditto...you are just MARVELOUS!!! You are like a time machine...bringing us all together. The generations have something in common now.....you! And your" co-hearts",the crew, are so "in-sink". (as in sink or swim???) Give your Mom a hug for all of us. Kriss
I am soooo surprised at all the foods dogs should not eat! Who knew- certainly not me. I heard about a few of them, but things like ham and cheese, gosh my dog would wash and polish my car for it!
Thanks for the info!
You are sooo AWESOME plus a lil bit of RADICAL mixed in. Thank you for giving me the strength to get out of bed everyday. Oh and I love Jamanji!!
I watch your show everyday and recorded it so
I can watch it on the weekend.
I love Charlie and all the animals. My dog Coco
just LOVES Charlie and perks right up when she
sees him on the show. Like Charlie Coco has ear
problems and stomach upsets so I was so happy
when you put his diet on the website and Now
she eats what Charlie eats and NO PROBLEMS.In
fact I took this diet into my Vet and he said
it's great and you can give a dog (40lbs or more)
1 human multi-vitamin daily! I verified this with
Hills Dog Food who also recommended human vitamin.
I saw how upset you were when you thought You were
not feeding what he needed-YOU are feeding him
what he needs just look at his healthy SMILE:)
To the funniest lady on T.V. since I Love Lucy,Bonnie Hunt!
Your show was the best today, as usual. I learned so much about dog nutrition from the Vet. and I have to say, you must be the nicest T.V. personality (along with your band and crew) there ever was. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE BONNIE HUNTS!!!!!
Bonnie, this is my first contact to a celeb. ||B|ut I so enjoy you and your show Thank You|! Ihave to pick up my grandkids everyday ,so miss the last 20 minutes of your show.|Darn kids! (no only kidding) Now I have found your web site I can try and keep up! | Great show about 20 foods never to give your pet! |I| have a |Boxer with a sensitive stomach , I am guilty of giving himatreat of milk or cheese as well as my german shepard who I was sure she had a iron stomach....Well no more sorry kids just approved dog treats from now on! Thank you again ,Bonnie.
BONNIE,
OH MY GOD I'M STILL LAUGHING! LOVED YOUR BROADWAY HITS!!!! I enjoy watching you interview guests but you are so funny and talented I really love hearing you talk about growing up in Chicago as well as Tee Hee Ha Ha(Still laughing about the Broadway Hits) your comedy. I grew up in Indianapolis in the 1960s and early 1970S and I can totally relate to your mid western upbringing. I had to move to Tucson and when I was in elementary school when my mom remarried after divorce. Then we moved to San Diego over 30 years ago.I visited my dad and grandparents every summer and sometimes holidays. Although living in area where weather does not dictate your life is great it's a trade off.I miss alot of the midwestern mentality and small town life in the 1960s & 70s which is mostly hilarious to me now compared to life today in these times, especially living on the fast paced west coast.
I will admit that any culture shock (Tee Hee Hee Ha ha still laughing from your Broadway Hits sketch)I was feeling after moving to San Diego soon dissolved after my family and I drove to Disneyland as California residents in just a a few hours.I was a Disney kid through and through who ate drank slept all things Disney it was so great not having to drive for a week cross country (even though those annual trips were fun) to get to the happiest place on earth. I remember thinking Now that i live in California, I could go to Disneyland everyday if I wanted to.
I visited my friends in Indy and they asked me how come I didn't have a California tan since I lived at the beach.I told them that I didn't live on the beach. What??? They had a glammed up ideas about life outside of Indiana and just assumed that everyone that lives in California has a Coppertone tan and lives on the beach. They also thought because it's so barren and dry out west compared to Indy that you couldn't buy a real xmas tree! After I told them that there were hardly any houses with basements, if you see a person biking, jogging or walking even at night it's a choice because they want to not because they have to because their car is broke down, and the worst crime against humanity ever committed NO White Castles unless you buy em at the grocery and heat them up in the microwave( It's not the same as take-home-a-sack) they were in shock that California, the land of everything was not really.
I think you are way too hip for the room sometimes.I have yelled at the TV "What's up with the audience?'.It's frustrating as a viewer when I'm totally following along with what you are saying joking or not and the audience at your studio doesn't really understand or get it.
Alot of guests in the 22-35 age group do not appeal to me. So many are spoiled rich brats that think they are talented. I prefer Jamie Lee Curtis, Jonathan Winters,Cloris Leachman types, the trendy young hollywood types lack the look and feel of what the hallmark of Hollywood is all about and that's Glamour! They all lack class, style. The media made young hollywood popular by saturating the public with play by play accounts of young hollywoods lack of good judgement not because Lindsey Lohans performance in "Herbie Fully Loaded." was Oscar worthy!wait a minute it should have been titled "Lindsey Fully Loaded?!" I can't think of anyone in young Hollywood as being entertainers.Cloris Leachman,Will Ferrell they are entertainers. One of my idols like you was Dean Martin and I tried to talk my parents into building on a second story to our house so they could install a Dean Martin Pole for me. I said that i would never be late to school because I could slide down the pole to save time rather than go down stairs. I also wanted a red beehive shaped free standing fireplace like he had sighting that I could cook my own food(marshmellows) without getting in the way?! I cried when Deans daughter was on your show. Bonnie you are an entertainer not just a comedian. You beautiful smart and funny.Being an animal lover too is another feather in your cap.Sometimes when I refer to a famous person when I am talking to my 17 yr old Holly or my 22yr old Nicole their eyes roll up in the back of their heads because they have no idea who I.m referring to or they are turned off.I don't get the eye roll when I talk about you. They love you and think you are funny too.I get a kick out of your stories about a much more simple way of life and the people and events then and now that have left an impression on you.Thank you for sharing those impressions with us.Your'e the best Bonnie! Your Biggest Fan Ever!
Deb
P.S. My favorite Bonnie stories of all time was when you told the story on Letterman about you forgetting to rub in your lipstick on your cheeks. Also how you sat in front of the tv ready to catch cartoon characters in case they fell out,Flinstones etc. THE BEST EVER!!!!!!
